All X Premium Subscribers to Have Access to Grot AI Soon - Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, recently revealed that all users who subscribe to its premium version of the social network will soon be able to access Grok. Grok, a chatbot developed by xAI. Musk announced this development in a recent post on X, while some details are still under development.

Previously, only Premium+ members of the social network could access Grok. This came after Musk released Grok to the public earlier this month in response to a legal battle with OpenAI over claims that the company had diverted from its original purpose in favour of a for-profit business model.

Elon Musk stated, "Later this week, Grok will be enabled for all premium subscribers (not just premium+)," in a post on X about GrokAI becoming available to more users soon.

As previously announced, GrokAI was released as an open-source project with an open release on GitHub. In case you don't know, when an AI model is placed on open-source, its source code is available for anyone to edit and share. So, to improve Grok's xAI capabilities and retain its competitive nature with other tech companies like OpenAI, Meta, Google, and others, GrokAI will be made available for research and development to researchers and developers through its open sourcing.

In a blog post, xAI declared that GrokAI is now publicly available. The xAI team is "releasing the base model weights and network architecture of Grok-1, a large language model," according to the blog post.

The blog post also stated that anyone interested in using the model must follow the GitHub guidelines.

When Grok AI was first revealed in November of last year, it was described as an AI assistant with "wit and a rebellious streak" that would respond to inquiries. The XAI team tweeted that people without a sense of humour should not use the chatbot.

The team's post read, "Grok is an AI modelled after the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask. Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don't use it if you hate humour."

The group also mentioned that because of X, Grok would be aware of the world in real-time. This could imply that the user's X posts will be accessible to the public and used as a source of knowledge for the AI system.

In addition, the AI system was said to "answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems."

The chatbot was released to X Premium+ subscribers in December. Now that it is available to all premium subscribers, observing how they use it and sharing their experiences will be great.

About Grok

Grok is a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by xAI based on a large language model (LLM). Elon Musk initiated it in direct response to the rise of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which Musk co-founded. The chatbot is advertised as "having a sense of humor" and has direct access to Twitter (X). It is currently under beta testing for those with the premium version of X.

Early access to the Grok chatbot was restricted to only X Premium subscribers who paid for it, and the chatbot was first shown to a small number of individuals in November 2023 by xAI.

It was declared that only higher tier X Premium+ subscribers would have access to the bot after it exited early beta. At the preview time, xAI described the chatbot as "a very early beta product – the best we could do with two months of training" that could "improve rapidly with each passing week."

Grok became open source six days after Musk announced on X on March 11, 2024, that the language model would be made available to the public in a week.
