Black-owned 7-Eleven experienced sale surge after supporting Black-owned vintner

The only black American owned franchise in Austin-Round Rock, 7-Eleven reported that it started experiencing a great surge in sales after supporting the black-owned business McBride Sisters Wine on social media. Alyson Rae Lawson, the CEO of 7-Eleven said after learning that the McBride Sisters is the largest vintner owned by a black in the US, she exclaimed “It kind of blew out of the water… I think my last order of the entire McBride collection was 80 cases.”

McBride Sisters is co-owned by the California based winemaker sisters Robin and Andrea McBride. As a way of supporting McBride Sisters, Lawson invested not just her money but also her time into the company's latest collection of wine branded as "Black Girl's Magic." She promoted the brand among her customers and even on her social media page. According to Lawson, this act drove a lot of buyers to the brand. In fact, Robin, a co-founder of McBride Sisters said, Lawson, has become the highest volume selling retailer of their brand in the country. She added that

“I don’t know that we’ve seen an account quite like this before,” Robin said. “But her for a 7-Eleven, they brought in 10 cases of Black Girl Magic and they sold out the first day. The next day, they brought in 30 cases and they sold out that day. Then 70 cases and it’s sold out immediately. She said I can’t even keep these in stock.”

“It started with the Black Girl Magic collection and that sold like crazy,” Lawson said. “Then once I bought out all of the warehouses in Texas, I said why don’t I get the rest of the McBride’s in stock until I get more Black Girl Magic.”

The two female black-owned company feels this is a special way of helping each other's business grow. It is an act that benefits both companies.

“As soon as we’re able to move around, we are going to get on the first thing smoking to go hug her neck and congratulate her,” Robin said.

“It’s really about helping each other,” Lawson said.

Being a social media savvy, Lawson keeps her customer up to date on the latest brand by the Sisters' company. In this way, she promotes the company and creates more awareness.

Lawson's promotion increased not just the awareness of the company but also the sales of the brand in her own company. Lawson herself reported that her promotion on social media skyrocketed the sale of the brand in her store and also the sales of other products she deals in. The awareness also helps her business grow.
