Clubhouse introduces Accelerator program to fund creatives on the platform

Audio chat app Clubhouse is introducing a new way to support creatives on its platform through its accelerator program.

The audio social media platform announced the launch of its Clubhouse Creator First program on Sunday. The program aims to help creators and hosts on the app grow their brand via building audiences, monetizing their shows, and connecting with other brands, according to The Verge.

In a Town Hall update, Clubhouse announced that it will be choosing 20 creatives to mold and support, to add value to the app’s model.

“Today’s Town Hall Updates: We are launching our first creator accelerator program, Clubhouse Creator First. We are looking to support and equip 20 creators w/resources they need to bring their ideas and creativity to life. Details and application here: https://t.co/kmKjQvoUBK,” Clubhouse said in a tweet.

Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison said the core of the accelerator program is to help creators get paid for their work, which will be achieved by linking creators with brand sponsors. He said he believes this is achievable because brands are already reaching out to Clubhouse for opportunities to get involved.

In the event where the platform cannot find sponsors for a particular brand or show, Clubhouse will guarantee a basic income of $5,000 a month, throughout the three months the creator will participate in the program

Davison also said the platform will give direct feedback to the accelerator’s participants, such as what they can do better to improve their shows and “other deep dive concept development.” When the creators are ready to launch their shows, Clubhouse will link them up with creative design services to help them design promotional materials to help them promote their shows outside of Clubhouse.

To qualify, creators must answer a variety of questions in the application, including what platforms they’re active on, their current reach on those platforms, what tools would be most helpful to use on the platforms, what shows they’d like to upgrade, and many more.

Clubhouse is showing strong signs of growing beyond just another social media platform to a business unit. With the recent hire of Netflix, OWN, and Harpo Productions alum Maya Watson, the platform hopes to grow its global marketing and cover more regions.

Clubhouse was launched exactly a year ago, on March 17. Ahead of its first-anniversary celebration, the platform will launch its new program and take its operations to new levels. The past year has been massively successful for Clubhouse, as it has seen an expansion in user-base and investors.

Clubhouse is valued at $1 billion, according to Fortune. It is largely attributed to innovative content creators who have been tirelessly working to grow the platform.

Davison also announced during the Sunday town hall that Clubhouse will no longer require access to user’s phone contacts to share the app, but users can invite people to the platform directly by using their phone numbers. He said the platform has added some new product features based on requests, including language filtering and link sharing. Although, Clubhouse remains invite-only, and is still not available to android users.

Applications for the Clubhouse Creator First closes on March 31. For more information, click here.
