Dell Layoffs 5% of Its Workforce, Which Is To Affect About 6,500

One of the tech giants, Dell technologies, is set to lay off about 5% of its workforce due to the challenges they face in the Personal Computer Market.

The company is one of the most significant private sectors in Ireland, and employers currently employ about 5000 people in Ireland across Cork, Dublin, and Limerick.

From reports, about 6,500 staff will be affected by Dell's job-cutting decision in the coming weeks. In Ireland, about 250 workers may lose their jobs, and about 6,500 will lose their jobs worldwide.

Why is Dell Laying off Employees?

The tech company is going through some harsh market conditions, carrying on its back some uncertainty about the future; this was said by the Joint Chief Operating Officer of Dell, Jeff Clarke. According to Jeff, it is a hard decision to let go of some of our employees, but it is needed for long-term success and the company's health.

"Unfortunately, with changes like this, some team members will leave the organization. This is a tough decision we must make for the company's long-term health and success. Please know we'll support those impacted as they transition to their next opportunities."

Before this time, Dell had made some decisions that included a pause in employing more staff, limiting travel, and reducing outside service spending.

Mr. Clarke also said in his statement, "We continuously evaluate operations to ensure the right structure is in place to provide the best value and support to partners and customers. This is part of our regular course of business".

More about Dell

The layoff remains a tough decision for Jeff Clarke, but it was needed because the measures they took didn't finally pay off. As of January 28, 2022, Dell is said to have about 133,000 workers, according to a company filing by SEC. This job cut arose because the demand for Personal Computers and Laptops has dropped worldwide.

Global shipments of Personal Computers were reduced by 28% year over year in the 4th quarter of 2022; this was gathered according to Industry Analysts at IDC. Shipping computers at Dell dropped to 37% for that period, and competitors like Lenovo, Apple, and HP Inc. also decreased by 28%, 29%, and 2%, respectively. The shares of Dell fell by 3% on Monday.

Final words on Dell Layoffs

Dell has also decided to take such a decision because of the low demand for Personal Computers and Laptops, affecting over 6,000 workers globally. This has been a report from different tech giants, with Twitter opening up the whole issue by laying off thousands of employees, then Meta joined.

We also have layoff information from the camp of Equitybee, Splunk, Amazon, HP Inc., and other tech giants, who have been faced with fears from the global market's economic situations.
