Do you make more money with Uber or with Lyft

There is a question always lurking in the mind of potential drivers: Uber or Lyft, which between the two pays more?

The gig economy has created a unique way to earn your money. One of these ways is to drive for the Taxi industries. But the question is if you want to choose one out of the two most notable taxi industries in the United States –Uber and Lyft, which among these two industries will you choose and how will you make your money working as a rider for the industry?

Before examining this question, it is important to note that with the increasing rate of the taxi industries, the two most notable ones Uber and Lyft have suffered a huge loss. Usually. Also, people are always a bit skeptical about getting into someone else car and allow them to take charge of the steer and drive them to wherever they are going to. However, this skepticism has been tacitly handled with the impeccable result of Uber and Lyft service. The two companies have consistently shown that they are industries to be trusted. Their drivers are not just any random person with a driving license. They are well trained and always very careful. they are also very respectful and cool.

Also, what most riders of the two companies usually look out for whether you are traveling or going on a short ride to the bar is convenient and satisfying. This does not only guarantee a good rating but also a good tip.

But with the increasing rate of other taxi industries, how do the drivers make more money joining any of these two industries?  This article provides a detailed explanation of how you can make money as an Uber driver or as a Lyft driver. In determining which of the two industries pays more, some criteria will be highlighted. These include:

  • Branding
  • How the price charges on transport are determined
  • How to use the app to book a ride
  • Rating
  • Vehicle availability in Areas
  • Vehicle options for uber
  •  Vehicle options for lyft
  • Vehicle requirements
  • Customer support for riders
  • Drivers
  • Income and other opportunities
  • How much do uber driver make
  • How much do Lyft drivers make
  • How expenses are calculated

Branding:

The outlook of the Uber Taxi Industry utters one word - professionalism. Uber drivers act like a well-trained businessman. They are focused on their job, which is to take you safely to your destination.  They are so trained that their service is similar to that of a businessman finalizing a business transaction with you. They get out of the car to help you with whatever goods you are carrying, ensure you are well seated and start taking you to wherever your destination. The ride is usually with little or no conversation.

However, unlike Uber, Lfyt drivers tend to be more relax and friendly. This is usually the major difference in the way both companies deliver their service. Most persons who have used both services are of the view that Lyft tends to be more entertaining and approachable than Uber. Even the company's logo bespoke their friendliness. Lyft is equivalent to “your friend with a car.”  Therefore, there is a chance that when you use Lyft, your driver would want to engage you in conversation. Also, you can be sure of someone to listen to whatever you have to say or share at the moment, even if the person you are sharing that talk with is a complete stranger. Lyft drivers are friendly than uber drivers.

Added to this, recently, Uber has been involved in a lot of scandals that customers are beginning to opt for other taxi industries. All along, Lyft has continued to stay out of trouble while maintaining their friendly and cool outlook. All in all, if you are looking for a business-kind of ride that values luxury and prestige, Uber should be top on your list, however, if you are looking for a more relaxed and friendly ride where you can chat away the time, then Lyft should be top on your list.

Ridesharing

How to book a ride using the company’s app

Booking a ride on any of the two companies is pretty simple. It is as simple as buying airtime on your phone through your bank account. All you have to do is download the app from google play store and complete all the necessary registrations. This would also include the credit card you intend to use for the payment of your rides.

Uber's app appears more modern and sleek as you can easily watch when the driver gets to your destination and also give a rating if you are pleased with the service. There is no much difference between the uber app and the lyft app. Their difference is only in how the fare is calculated and the interface of the app.

Ride sharing rating

Rating

Both apps would require that you rate the drivers' expertise especially if you are a first user. Uber is notable because if you give a driver a 5-star rating, you would be required to write him a thank you as a form of compliment. Also, the industry does not just allow you to book a ride and calculated your ride price, there is also an option to tip a driver if he or she offers you a good ride.

Similarly, Lyft offers the option to give a rider a good tip.

On the downside, the cross-promotion of other services on the Uber app makes it very noisy. This cross-promotion includes UberEATS and other delivery services. These additional features can be very distracting especially if you all you need is a simple ride.

  • Vehicle availability in your area

Having booked a ride, the next thing to note is whether your choice of company has vehicle availability in your area. Uber has a higher coverage area than Lyft. Before settling for any of the two companies, check your pocket.

Lyft ride sharing app

Lyft is a great choice in terms of high demand or when you are in a dire need of a low-cost ride. However, if you want a driver that looks good and very professional, then you should go for uber. If your choice is uber, use the uberPOOL so you will be charged less.

In terms of the quality of cars used for the business, since Uber offers a more professional business than Lfyt, they make use of high-end luxury cars. Although Lyft also makes use of high-quality cars, they are not as common as Uber. Many of the Lfyt Plus, Premier, and Lux vehicles are similar to the vehicles already included in the UberX and UberBLACK. To save time, you can run through the list of vehicles available for each level of ride and choose anyone that appeals to you and is affordable. Here is a breakdown of the options of the vehicle for each company

Vehicle options for Uber

  • UberPool: This is the cheapest vehicle option for any customer. It also offers ride-sharing for passengers going the same route
  • UberX: Next after UberPool in the rank scale is UberX. It is also another cheap option but not as cheap as the UberPool. The car can contain up to four people. It does not offer ride-sharing.
  • Uber XL: This is a bit higher in price than the first two. It is a SUX car that can contain up to six persons.
  • UberSELECT: The price for this is higher than the Uber XL. It is a 4-door luxury sedan that can contain up to 4 passengers.
  • UberBLACK: Uber BLACK is a good option for the rich. It consists of high-end luxury cars with seatings for up to four persons.
  • UberSUV: This is the most expensive riding option. This option consists of a high-end SUV with seating for up to 6 persons.

Vehicle option for Lyft

  • Lyft line: This is the cheapest vehicle option in lyft. Also, riders can share ride with this option if they are traveling towards the same route.
  • Lift: This is a regular car option for potential customers. It is also very cheap and can take up to four passengers. If you don’t want to share a ride with any stranger, here is the cheapest option for you.
  • Lyft Plus: This is also another regular vehicle option for potential customers. It can take up to six passengers and does not give room for ride-sharing.
  • Lyft Premier: This is a higher quality option for rich customers. The cars are luxurious and can contain up to four passengers.

how to make money

How The Ride Money Is Calculated

This is like the core of the whole idea of using the taxi industry. Customers are always skeptical of the fact that they can always take a commercial bus and pay far less than they would have paid using either Uber or Lyft. The truth is as much as commercial buses are cheaper, they don’t offer the same kind of prestige and luxury offered by taxi industries. However, if you want to know how Uber and Lyft calculate their price, study this part of the article very well. So that next time, you won't have to complain you were charge beyond normal.

If you are just getting started with the service, both companies offer a discount for the first ride, after which you will be charged the normal price. However, it is important to watch out for a price surge. Uber can charge you up to 8 times the original price during a price surge, while Lyft will only charge not more than twice the original price. Whether you are choosing uber or Lyft, here are the four major factors that determine the price.

  • Your place of pickup: The place you are being picked from will affect the pricing of the service.
  • Distance: The distance between the place you are traveling or going to and the place of pick up will affect the amount you will be charged as price.
  • Traffic: Are you located in a traffic area or traveling to an area where there is always traffic? While you are traveling, did you encounter any traffic on the road and how long is the traffic? All these will determine how much you will be charged.
  • Tip: How much are you planning to tip the driver?

To get a better price estimate before requesting for a ride, it is advisable to check both apps to compare the price rate. Usually, the Uber rate is higher than the Lyft rate. Part of the reasons for this is the quality of their cars.  You can also compare the share rate of both apps by using Fare Estimate. To this, just enter your starting point and your destination. When you do, you will see Uber and Lyft pricing and the available vehicle option. Among these two apps, Uber gives you a better idea of their price than Lyft. Lyft is still improving its app to be more transparent but as it is, they are not there yet.

How Much Do Uber Drivers Make?

Uber offers their rider signup bonuses of up to $500 if you complete 75 rides in 30 days.

While a lot of drivers complain that their pay is not equivalent to the work, many are very contented combining the work to other things they do. It is important to note that it can be impossible to figure out individual pay for drivers per hour. No two drivers are paid the same way. This is because factors such as location, distance, traffic, and time can affect the amount that would be paid. In fact, a driver does not earn the same pay each day.

With the recent changes in the way Uber operates, the company is optimistic about a better compensation scheme and increased driver flexibility.

How much do Lyft drivers earn?

Some drivers of lyft revealed that they are entitled to a bonus of up to $5,000 depending on whether they meet the conditions for the bonus. However, this is not a good reason to jump into the industry. Before deciding whether or not to join Lyft, ensure that you do your research well.

In a recent study, the rideshare platform revealed that the average payment for Lyft drivers is $17.50 per hour. This is close to $2 more per hour than what Uber pays its drivers.

Also, Lyft drivers have been earning from tips from passengers long before Uber introduced this on their app. Although Lyft and Uber drivers earn approximately the same average per month, Lyft drivers earn more from tips and have more earning per share than Uber drivers.

The factors that are usually used to calculate how much a Lyft driver would earn include whether the driver is driving part-time or full time, vehicle availability, distance, and high demand cities.

In a recent earning data from Certify, it was discovered that Lyft drivers earn an average of $25.75 per hour. Added to this, technology and loan company, Earnest noted that Lyft drivers make earn a little bit more than Uber drivers. The average earning recorded per month for a Lyft driver is $210 per month and averaging $377. While Uber driver earns $155 and averaging $364.  Note: the firm reported that there is no clear cut difference between the two because a Lyft driver can also work for Uber and vice versa.

Vehicle Requirement For Drivers

If you sign up to become a driver for any of these two companies, the type of vehicle you will use will depend on the area you want to drive. Lyft and Uber don’t operate the same standard. For instance, while Uber requires a 2002 model for most cities, Lyft requires the 2004 model.

High-end drivers prefer UberBLACK while regular drivers tend to prefer driving for Lyft.

Expenses.

Drivers must incur a toll fee for using a toll road, but passengers have added a surcharge to cover the expenses.

If a passenger soil or damage a driver's car, they are reimbursed. If otherwise, the driver takes care of the expenses.

Summary

If you are interested more in offering a professional driver service, Uber should be on your top list. However, if you want a more relaxed and friendly driver service, go for Lyft.
