DSS Invites Suspended EFCC Chairman for Questioning Over Misuse of Power

News reaching our desk shows that the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdul Rasheed Bawa, has been summoned for questioning by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to Peter Afunanya, spokesman for the Department of State Services, the invitation is to clarify some allegations that have been put out as the suspended EFCC Chairman in the person of Abdul Rasheed Bawa.

It wasn't long before news outlets reported that the EFCC Chairman was suspended indefinitely and directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission, pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Willie Bassey, director of information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), announced the suspension in a statement, citing "weighty allegations of abuse of office leveled against him."

The statement read:

“The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Mr. Abdul Rasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bawa arrived a few hours ago. The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him.”

Bawa is the second head of a public office that President Tinubu has suspended since his inauguration, due to allegations of abuse of authority against him, which the President promised to look into.
