Elon Musk’s Starlink Choose Payday and Barter as Payment Options for Nigerians

A notable step has been taken by Starlinks to make sure payment for its services won't be difficult; the brand which is owned by Elon Musk recently commenced operations in Nigeria.

Starlinks has made it official that Nigerians can now pay for the services by using Payday or Barter. These two services offer virtual dollar cards that can be funded with Naira and used to pay for international transactions.

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, providing satellite internet access coverage to 48 countries. It also has plans for global phone service after the year 2023.

SpaceX Starlink kicked off on January 31, 2023. The firm had tweeted some months back that it will kick off its first operation in Nigeria making the country the first beneficiary in Africa. The tweet said, “Starlink is now available in Nigeria – the first African country to receive service.”

After the suspension of international transactions on naira cards, only those who have access to dollar cards can make payments for Starlink, even though the prices are quoted in naira. According to some industry analysts, they said that the introduction of Payday and Barter as payment options for Nigerians came as a result of the decision of the CBN to stop international transactions.

A notice to that effect reads: “Lagos, Nigeria, order now to reserve your Starlink. Starlink expects to expand in 2023. You will receive a notification once your Starlink is ready to ship. Prices are based on the official rate. For naira payments, please use Payday, Barter, or a similar. N19, 260 for service and N268,584 for hardware.”
