Maserati plans to go all-electric

Maserati announced Thursday that it wants to provide electric versions of its complete lineup by 2025, beginning next year with a new GranTurismo EV with more than 1,200 horsepower, according to CEO Davide Grasso, who spoke to reporters on March 17 during a conference call.

The GranTurismo "Folgore" will be the famous Italian brand's first all-electric vehicle, according to Stellantis, previously Fiat Chrysler. According to the manufacturer, it will have a maximum speed of approximately 190 mph and a 0-62 mph time of less than three seconds.

Maserati will unveil the all-electric Grecale midsize SUV and a Grancabrio GT car after the GranTurismo. Maserati intends to introduce electrified models of its MC20 supercar, Quattroporte sedan, and Levante SUV by 2025.

Maserati CEO Davide Grasso called the EV revolution, which includes the company's goal of being completely electric by 2030, a "defining moment" for the more than hundred years old automaker on Thursday.

Grasso also stated that the corporation intends to phase out all internal combustion engine vehicles by 2030, however, he did not specify a specific date. He added, "That's the landing spot." "The consumer decides."

The four-seat GranTurismo has a sleek exterior appearance, according to preview photographs released Thursday.

Maserati hasn't said how much the new EVs will cost. Its classic variants currently range in price from around $78,000 to more than $200,000.

The news came as Stellantis' only luxury brand reported a 0.4 percent growth in worldwide market share for 2021, to 2.4 percent. According to a business report, Maserati's market share in North America and China climbed to 2.9 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively. With a total of 24 269 automobiles shipped worldwide last year, it increased by 41percent year over year.

Almost all major automakers, particularly luxury brands like Maserati, have stated that electric vehicles will make up the vast majority of their sales by 2030. Porsche has announced that by 2030, all-electric vehicles will account for 80 percent of its global sales. Previously, its sales were expected to be split between all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, which combine combustion engines with battery technologies.

It started earlier this month that in order to retain double-digit profits, it would have to slash expenses and accelerate electrification. It announced in October that it would restructure its historic Turin facility as an electric vehicle center, with two Maserati premium vehicles being moved to the Mirafiori plant as part of the move.

In the new proposal, Maserati executives did not go into great detail. Grasso and Francesco Tonon, head of global product planning, would not comment on the possible source of battery technology for the new electric range, nor would they provide performance or mileage figures for the upcoming vehicles.

"The new GranTurismo will be the first car in Maserati history to adopt 100% electric solutions and will debut in 2023.
