NNPC states why it wants to acquire FG's power plants under the NIPP

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Head, Public Communications, Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE), Ibeh Chidi.                             

The Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited Malam Mele Kyari, has submitted a reason for its concern in the acquisition of power plants controlled by the federal government in its Nigerian Integrated Power Project (NIPP) 

The state-owned oil company said that it has the requirements, aptitude, and knowledge to contribute energetically to Nigeria’s power sector, enhancing that the NNPC is specified to improve power production and supply in Nigerian households.

To achieve this, Kyari said the national oil company had signed a contract with China Machinery Engineering Company and General Electric to provide 50 megawatts of electricity to Maiduguri, Borno State.

“ Kyari said that the administration of NNPC is bound to operate the organization competently and for the economic benefit of the shareholders. Furthermore, it intends to commit to training that will yield reserves and for the power sector,” the assertion read in part.

The NNPC manager explained his organization was prepared to team up with the bureau after the scrutiny of some of its investments for the exchange and divested those investments through the BPE.

The Managing director further said that the intended scrutiny would be accomplished by distinguished and reliable audit firms.
