President Bola Tinubu N500bn for Paliatives Get Approval From the National Assembly

The House of Representatives has accepted President Bola Tinubu's proposal for a change to the 2022 appropriation act.

Tinubu's request for N500 billion in palliatives for Nigerians to help ease the suffering caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

On Wednesday, the amendment received its first, second, and third readings in plenary.

However, following comments from members of the House, the House supported the President's proposal on Thursday. The president expressed confidence that lawmakers will accept his appeal.

“I write to the house of reps to approve the amendment of the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act in accordance to the attached,”

“The request has become necessarily important to, among other things, source for funds necessary to provide palliative to mitigate the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy on Nigerians.

“Thus, the sum of N500 billion only has been extracted from the 2022 Supplementary Act of N819,536,937,815 for the provision of palliative to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal.”

The National Assembly approved a supplemental budget of N819 billion for the fiscal year 2022 in December.

At the time, the legislature also increased the passage of the 2022 budget until March 31, 2023.

The national assembly amended the 2022 supplementary budget in May 2023 to delay the implementation of the capital components to December 2023.
