Tinubu to Launch Fulaku Solution: Combating Banditry & Herder Social Exclusion

With the goal of making substantial impact and addressing the assimilation of herders into Nigeria and resolving the social exclusion experienced by Fulani herders in North West Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu is set to launch an innovative solution known as "Fulaku." This groundbreaking scheme is expected to tackle grievances and foster inclusivity among the Fulani community, while also addressing the security challenges prevalent in the region. Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettimma, shared this information during a press statement in Kano.

President Tinubu's forthcoming initiative builds upon the efforts initiated by Nigeria's former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who recognized the pressing need to resolve conflicts between herders and farmers. During his tenure, multiple schemes were introduced, including the Livestock Transformation Plan and the Livestock Breed Improvement Scheme. These initiatives aimed to find a lasting solution to the challenges faced by herders and farmers alike.

Focused Approach to Tackle Banditry and Security Challenges

Vice President Kashim Shettima reiterated the administration's commitment to addressing banditry and security challenges that have plagued the North-West region. He emphasized that President Tinubu has finalized plans to introduce a comprehensive strategy to tackle banditry and rampant killings in the region. The proposed measures will encompass both military and non-military solutions, demonstrating a holistic approach to combatting the crisis.

Introducing Fulaku: A Path to Inclusive Governance and Peace

Vice President Shettima also highlighted the correlation between the prevailing crisis in the North-West region and poverty, as well as social exclusion. He underlined President Tinubu's determination to confront these challenges head-on and introduce a solution to address the root causes of banditry and insurgency. The upcoming unveiling of the "Fulaku" solution will pave the way for addressing the grievances and social exclusion experienced by the Fulani community in the North West. President Tinubu's vision of redefining the meaning and concept of modern governance is at the forefront of this initiative.

Acknowledging the futility of relying solely on a military response to the crisis in the North-West, Vice President Shettima emphasized the need for both kinetic and non-kinetic solutions. Engaging in an endless war of attrition will not yield sustainable outcomes. Instead, a multifaceted approach is essential to effectively tackle the multifarious issues plaguing the region. President Tinubu's comprehensive strategy aims to synergize military actions with non-military interventions, facilitating long-term stability and peace.

Addressing Insurgency and Poverty

Mr. Olusola Abiola, the Director of Information in the Office of the Vice President, added that the "Fulaku" scheme will not only address the grievances and social exclusion faced by the Fulbe community in the Northwest but will also tackle insurgency and poverty in the entire nation. By targeting the root causes of banditry and insurgency, this holistic solution seeks to bring about a transformative change in the socio-economic landscape of Nigeria, especially in the Northern region.

President Bola Tinubu's introduction of the "Fulaku" scheme signifies a proactive step towards resolving herder assimilation challenges and addressing security issues in Nigeria. By prioritizing inclusivity, poverty alleviation, and a comprehensive approach to governance, the Tinubu administration aims to foster lasting peace, prosperity, and social harmony throughout the nation.
