Uganda’s Rocket Health raises $5m Series A round to accelerate East African expansion

Rocket Health, which was founded in 2012, is Uganda's leading telemedicine provider, providing an end-to-end healthcare experience to over 25,000 patients. The startup's approach integrates four services: 24/7 teleconsultations, medicine delivery, home sample collection for laboratory diagnostic tests, and physical expert clinic consultations.

Rocket Health, a Ugandan firm that uses technology to change medical care delivery, has raised another $5 million in a Series A round, bringing the total amount raised to $6.2 million.

Creadev, an evergreen investment company backed by the Mulliez family of French entrepreneurs, is leading Rocket Health's $5 million Series A round. Creadev was joined in the round by current early-stage African investors Grenfell Holdings and LoftyInc Capital Management. The funding will be used to develop the company across Uganda and into Kenya.

In addition, the healthcare startup has partnered with Ada, a Berlin-based end-user and self-assessment platform, to integrate artificial intelligence into its teleconsultations and to expand its integrated digital health solution to more regions across East Africa over the next two years, with plans to expand to West Africa and other regions in the future.

Rocket Science's CEO and co-Founder, Davis Musinguzi, stated that the company intends to make healthcare more accessible across Africa, a region with a high disease burden and a low patient-to-doctor ratio.

"I believe technology will help us bridge that gap, increase efficiencies, and expand our reach beyond," he said. There's no way we'll be able to build enough hospitals to provide everyone with the health care they require. Telemedicine, in my opinion, is a great way to bridge the availability divide."

"A large number of healthcare facilities and personnel remain concentrated in urban areas or capital cities. The benefits of these highly competent persons are not available to a large number of people across the country. And I believe that combining technology with existing infrastructure is the best way to close the gap."

"We're ecstatic that Creadev and the Mulliez family's investment thesis aligns so well with the Rocket Health founding team's timeless mission." Together, we will create a long-term digital healthcare value chain in Africa, all the way down to the last mile."

"We are thrilled to join with Rocket Health on its objective to make healthcare accessible to many people in Sub-Saharan Africa," Creadev Africa said. The Rocket Health team's innovation, tenacity, and lively culture have left a lasting impression on us, and they have a bold vision for the future of African primary care. From data analytics to new distribution platforms, the possibilities are endless."
