UK PM, Rishi Sunak Congratulates Nigeria President-Elect, Bola Tinubu Confident of Stronger Trade Ties Between the 2 Countries

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Rishi Sunak, has extended his congratulations to Bola Tinubu, the newly elected President of Nigeria, on his victory.


Tinubu was proclaimed the winner of the election that took place on the 25th of February 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This announcement was made on the 1st of March 2023.


Tinubu received a total of 8,794,726 votes, according to Mahmood Yakubu, the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


Atiku Abubakar, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 6,984,520 votes, placing him in second place. While Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party (LP), came in third place with 6,101,533 votes.


In a message that he made on Twitter, Rishi Sunak expressed his excitement at the prospect of working with Nigeria to expand the level of security and trade between the two countries.



He sent out a tweet that said, "Congratulations to @officialABAT on his triumph in Nigeria."


"The relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria is still quite strong. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our commercial and security relations, which will provide new possibilities for enterprises and contribute to the development of both of our nations. The connection between the United Kingdom and Nigeria is still quite strong. I am looking forward to collaborating with you to strengthen our trade and security relations, therefore expanding prospects for enterprises and contributing to the economic growth of both of our nations."
