UK reports highest number of daily Covid cases since the pandemic began

The UK has reported a significant increase in covid cases since the pandemic began and this means that the country may be forced to shut down again.  The U.K reported 78,600 new covid-19 cases and it’s the highest that the country has ever seen since the pandemic started. This time the newest Variant that is causing the scare is the Omicron Variant.

This is what we know about the Omicron variant in the UK.

·       The U.K. reported a record number of new daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with 78,610 in the last 24 hours.

·       It underlines the dramatic surge in infections that the country is seeing ahead of the holiday period.

·       One senior British health chief warned that there could be “staggering” numbers in the next few days.

·       So far, nearly 25 million people have had a booster shot of a vaccine in the country of 67 million.

Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s health emergencies program, highlighted the sudden surge of cases in the U.K., saying Wednesday that the number is doubling every two days or less than every two days.

“Which means if you have 100,000 cases today, it’s 200,000 cases [in] two days, 400,000 two days later, and then it’s 800,000 two days later. So in a week, let’s imagine in a week, eight days, just slightly more than [a] week of doubling time. The actual number of cases can increase eight or tenfold,” he said.

Also, the covid outbreak in the U.K has caused businesses to start limiting hours and shutting down in some cases. The Premier League has started canceling games and they are bringing back the pandemic covid-checklist that fans must abide by before they are allowed to attend games.
