Access Holdings Plc Appoints Abubakar Jimoh as Chairman of the Firm's Board of Directors

Access Holdings Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Abubakar Jimoh as the new chairman of the firm's Board of Directors.


Jimoh's appointment follows the demise of the former chairman of the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc, Mr Bababode Osunkoya. This announcement was in the group’s notice filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited, signed by the Company secretary, Sunday Ekeochi.


The notice reads,

  • We refer to our notification dated November 23, 2023, informing the Nigerian Exchange Limited of the demise of Mr. Bababode Osunkoya, the former chairman of the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc, on November 21, 2023, after a brief illness.


  • Further to the above, we hereby notify the NGX and the investing public that the Board, at its meeting held on December 19, 2023, unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Abubakar Aribidesi Jimoh as the chairman of the Board of Directors to replace Mr. Osunkoya.


Access Holdings said:  “Jimoh was an independent Non-Executive Director who, before this appointment, was the chairman of the Board of Audit Committee and Board Finance and Investment Committee.

Access Bank's Q3 financial results, which ended on September 30, 2023, revealed that the Group’s profit before tax was up 156.19% or N126.816 billion, far from the corresponding year, which settled at N49.500 billion in 2022. This remarkable performance is driven by the strong growth in interest income and foreign exchange gains.


Access profit after tax for Q3 2023 stood at N115.004 billion, which signifies a 138.27% increase from the corresponding year, which settled at N48.265 billion in 2022.

Who Is Mr. Abubakar Jimoh of Access Holdings?

Mr. Abubakar Jimoh, current Chairman of the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc, is a financial expert with over 25 years of experience in providing financial services to different sectors, covering treasury, client relationship management, credit risk management, market risk, operational risk management, portfolio management, and projects. He is also the Group Managing Director of Trustbanc Group, a leading investment management firm. Before his current role, Mr. Jimoh transformed Associated Discount House (ADH) from a failing Discount House to a Merchant Bank (Coronation Merchant Bank Ltd).


Before joining ADH, he was a General Manager and Divisional Head at the UBA Group responsible for Balance Sheet Management, Market Risk, and Investors Relations. He was also the Chief Risk Officer for various business segments, including UBA Africa and UBA Capital.


Mr. Jimoh worked with the Royal Bank of Canada Financial Group in various capacities between 1999 and 2005. He was the Divisional Chief of Private Sector Portfolio Management with the African Development Bank between 2005 and 2008. Mr. Jimoh was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Shelter Afrique between 2012 and 2013.


He has a robust professional cum academic pedigree, with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. Mr. Jimoh is a Chartered Internal Auditor and Certified General Accountant of Ontario and Canada. He has attended several Executive Management Development Programmes in leading institutions, including London Business School, Canadian Securities Institute, and Lagos Business School.
