Beyoncé is a popular American musician, actress, and businesswoman, with a net worth of $500 million. She has successfully built fame and fortune for herself through her musical career and other business deals. In her early music career, Beyoncé was the lead singer of girl group Destiny’s child until she went solo. After going solo, Beyoncé explored other units of the entertainment industry such as movies and TV. She has so far featured in movies like Austin Powers, The Pink Panther, The Fighting Temptations, The Lion King, etc. both as an actor and a voice actor. All through her stay in the entertainment industry, Beyoncé has won numerous awards, and she is considered one of the most talented performers in the industry. Early Life and Education


Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter was born September 4, 1981 to Tina Knowles, a hairdresser and salon owner, and Matthew Knowles, a sales manager, in Texas Houston. Born to her parents is Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s sister who is also a singer and a one-time Destiny Child’s backup dancer.


Beyoncé’s education kicked off at St. Mary’s Montessori School in Houston where she signed up for dance classes. Her singing talent was discovered at an early age by her dance instructor, Darlette Johnson, from there, Beyoncé’s interest in music and performing arts grew. At age seven, she won a school talent show, beating 15-16-year-olds in the competition. In 1990, Beyoncé enrolled in music magnet school Parker Elementary School, where she performed with the school’s choir. Thereafter, she attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and later Alief Elsik High School. Asides pursuing her singing talent in school, Beyoncé was the soloist of St. John’s United Methodist Church choir for two years.


At the age of 8, Beyoncé and childhood friend Kelly Rowland met and later teamed up with LaTavia Roberson at an audition for an all-girl singing group. The three were put in a group called the Girl’s Tyme, with three other girls. The group’s performance caught the attention of R&B producer, Arne Frager, who brought them to his studio in Northern California and put them in Star Search, the then largest talent show on national TV.


Early Music Career: Destiny’s Child


In 1995, Beyoncé’s father resigned from his job as a sales manager to manage the group, cutting the number to four. The first record label that agreed to sign the girls was Elektra Records, then Atlanta Records. By 1996, the group signed a contract with Columbia Records and changed their name to Destiny’s Child.


Beyoncé became the lead singer of the group, and together they won dozens of awards and recorded many hit songs. Destiny’s Child won Best R&B/Soul for their song “No, No, No” which was a hit. Another of their popular hit songs is “Say my name” which won the award for Best R&B performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song. Some of their other songs include “Jumpin, Jumpin”, “The Writing’s on the Wall,” “Bills, Bill, Bills,” etc.


Life After Destiny Child


In October 2001, Destiny’s Child released their last album, S Days of Christmas, after which they announced their plan to split and promote solo careers. Beyoncé’s first solo gig was a feature on Jay-Z’s “03 Bonnie &Clyde” in 2002. The song was a hit and rated first 4 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 Chart. In 2003, Beyoncé released her first solo album Drunk in Love, and premiered songs from the album during her first solo concert on June 14, 2003. The album was released 10 days later and it sold 317,000 copies in its first week. The album also topped the Billboard 200, and sold about 11 million copies worldwide. The album had hit songs like “Crazy in Love” featuring Jay-Z, Me, Myself, and I, Baby Boy, and Naughty Girl. The album earned the singer five awards in the 46th Annual Grammy Awards: Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The album also featured singer, Luther Vandross.


In July 2002, Beyoncé landed her first acting gig, where she played the role of Foxxy Cleopatra in Mike Myers’ comedy film Austin Powers in Goldmember. In its first week in the US box office, the movie grossed $73 million. She has since featured in many other major movies, including 2019’s The Lion King, as a voice actor.

Over the last two decades, Beyoncé’s career in the entertainment industry has since grown, fetching her both fame and fortune.


Endorsements, Business Ventures


Among her many career and lifetime achievements, Beyoncé founded her own entertainment company, Parkwood Entertainment, in 2010. The company was formed as an imprint of Columbia Records. The company covers the majority of Beyoncé’s brands in music, videos, movies, and fashion


Beyoncé has teamed up with other creative business minds to venture into other businesses beyond her singing, dancing, and acting career. She is a creative fashion designer, entrepreneur, and investor. Together with her mother, Tina Knowles, Beyoncé launched the women’s fashion line House of Dereon. The fashion line deals with the production and sales of accessories, jewelries, lingerie, footwear, sportswear, shoes, etc.


In 2010, Beyoncé launched her first solo fragrance brand and later created six other fragrance brands over the course of the years. Her fragrance brands have generated more than $500 million in revenue since the first launch in 2010.


In 2014, Beyoncé entered a partnership with British fashion company Topshop to produce a new fashion piece called the “Ivy Park”. She later bought Topshop’s share of the partnership to control 100% of the fashion brand, till date. To further strengthen the business structure of Ivy Park, the superstar signed a deal with Adidas to become a creative partner, in 2019. After the partnership announcement was made, shares of Adidas rose 1.3%.


Beyoncé has also signed endorsement deals with high profile brands such as Pepsi, L’Oréal, Nintendo DS, American Express, Emporio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, etc.
