Bosun Tijani Announces the Launch of $608 Million in Funding for Tech Entrepreneurs

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy,  Bosun Tijani, has revealed that the federal government of Nigeria has launched a fund of $609 million for tech entrepreneurs in Nigeria for four years.

Tijani made this known in an ongoing 2023 Nordic Nigeria Connect in Lagos, Nigeria, where he made it clear that the biggest contributor of services is telecommunication; hence, the country should build partnerships that would help its citizens get there.

  • In a connected world, our role is to build relationships with countries and organizations through innovation and a body of knowledge.

  • Nigeria doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel in what is already known in other countries, but we can leverage the opportunity.

The minister encouraged the government to build a country to a reputable height, which he claimed can't be achieved by the government alone as it will need the support of the private sector.

“The role of criticism of government should be to make government learn; hence, we should criticise with facts and evidence to let government be better,” he added.

In March 2023, the former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, launched a $600 million programme for young Nigerians in the tech sector and creative sector, with a call on African governments and the private sector to do more to support the growth of innovation on the continent.
