GenZTechies Hackfest 2023: Senator Abiru's Challenge to Embrace Tech Innovation

In a compelling address at the University of Lagos' Multipurpose Hall, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, urged young software developers and tech enthusiasts to seize the vast opportunities within the technology landscape. Senator Abiru's three-decade-long banking career showcased the gradual technological revolution that swept the banking sector, beginning with the emergence of new generation banks.


Senator Abiru, a Co-founder of the pioneering SAIL Innovation Lab, has been representing Lagos East Senatorial District. The lab, a first-of-its-kind innovation hub in the district, has already trained over 3,000 constituents, predominantly young individuals, within just two years. Collaborating with SAIL Innovation, the tech event drew more than 1,000 young Nigerians.


In his address, Senator Abiru emphasized his alignment with the event's vision of creating a robust platform and ecosystem for budding tech enthusiasts. He underscored the importance of nurturing and motivating young people to explore the boundless opportunities presented by the ongoing fourth industrial revolution – a realm dominated by technology and innovation. For Senator Abiru, the task of nation building necessitates a collective endeavor from all citizens.


Drawing inspiration from the journey of Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria's Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, who co-founded Africa's premier tech company, Co-creation Hub (CCHub), Senator Abiru issued a challenge to emerging entrepreneurs and tech professionals. He urged them to strive for excellence in their respective domains, aiming to contribute meaningfully to the nation's policy development process.
