Friday Trading Summary On The Nigerian Stock Exchange

On the last trading day, Friday 14, of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, a total of 219,549,946 shares were exchanged in 4,107 deals, which were equivalent to NGN 2,918,353,629. This shows a decline of 26% in volume of deals, 13% decline in turnover, and 4% decline in the number of deals when compared to the previous day's(Tuesday, May 11). This puts the market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange at N20.59 trillion.

 

 

In the aggregate, 102 equities took part in the trading, which ended with 18 gainers and 16 losers.

On the side of gainers, Eterna came out on top as its share price went up by 10% to close at N6.60 per share. It was followed by Regency Alliance Insurance, with its share price going up 9.68%, and N.E.M. Insurance Company with shares up by 9.47%. Consolidated Hallmark Insurance also gained as its shares went up by 8.89%.

 

On the other hand, Academy Press topped the list of losers as its shares lost 10% to wrap the day at N0.36 per share. It was followed by Linkage Assurances which lost 8% of its share price at the end of the day. Japaul Gold also saw 6.78% shaved off its share price, followed closely by Okomu Oil Palm with a loss of 6.76%.

 

The banking sector, as usual, traded the most shares, as Zenith Bank saw 32 million shares traded to top the list of highest volume. It was followed by Access Bank with 28.76 million traded shares, which was followed by yet another bank; Fidelity, with 19.67 million shares. FBN Holdings came in fourth place as 18.46 million of its shares traded on the bourse.

 

For indices, the NSE All-Share Index went up 98.93 points to wrap the week at 39,481.89, signifying a gain of 0.12% in a single week, and 2.28% in a month.

Other notable indices which performed on the bourse, include the NSE Premium Index which went up 0.17% in a day, the NSE Banking Index which went up by 1.13%, and the NSE Food & Beverage Index which went up 0.61%.
