Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Applauds Launch of Lagos Blue Line Rail Service

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the previous Lagos elections, has expressed his satisfaction with the commencement of operations of the blue line rail service, deeming it a significant and promising development.

In a recent announcement by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), it was disclosed that the blue line rail would initiate passenger services on September 4, 2023. Abimbola Akinajo, the managing director of the agency, further detailed that the initial phase of train operations would involve 12 daily trips for a fortnight, with plans to eventually escalate this to 76 trips per day.

Rhodes-Vivour, reacting to this exciting news, conveyed his optimism regarding the blue rail's potential to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by Lagos residents. On the social media platform “X”, formerly known as Twitter, He commented on the current hardships stemming from the high cost of living and elevated youth unemployment rates, despite statistical improvements. He also extended his commendations to the social commentators and political candidates who had vigorously championed this cause. He underscored the essential roles played by the opposition and the media in advocating for the people's best interests.

Furthermore, Rhodes-Vivour articulated his call for transparency and accountability from the state government concerning this long-awaited project. He emphasized that, considering the extensive 15-year timeline for its partial completion, it is only justifiable for Lagosians to be fully informed about the project's total expenditure and the reasons behind its prolonged duration. He stressed the importance of understanding what value the project delivers compared to the investment made. Additionally, he called for a clear timeline for the implementation of a comprehensive statewide mass transit system.
