Market Capitalization Of The NSE At 20.58 Trillion AT The Close Of Tuesday's Session: A Summary

At the close of Wednesday's trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, a total of 252,570,573 shares were traded in 3,474 deals, at a total market value of N 1,773,420,234. Compared with Monday's trading session, today's data shows a decline in the volume of 23 percent, a decline in turnover of 14 percent, and a decline in deals of 19 percent. This puts the market capitalization of the NSE at N20.58 trillion.

 

98 NSE listed equities participated in trading, which ended with 23 gainers and 16 losers. 

On The gainers' side, Prestige Assurance Company recorded an increase of 9.52 percent in its share price to close at N0.46, followed by Wema Bank, with an increase in the share price of 8.77 percent. Royal Exchange and Champion Breweries were next, with their prices going up 

7.69 percent and 7.46 percent respectively.

For losers, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.09% at N0.30 per share, followed by University Press which lost 8.59 percent. Chams and Honeywell Flour Mill were on the list as well as their shares dropped 4.55 percent and 4.44 percent respectively.

 

Access Bank recorded the highest volume of traded shares, with 57.1 million shares of the company exchanging hands. Transnational Corp. of Nigeria, owners of Transcorp Hotel, followed with 30.82 million shares traded, followed by Fidelity Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank with 29.43million 15.89million shares traded respectively.

 

The NSE All-Share Index went down by 13.04 (0.03%) points to close for the day at 39,305.48, which represents a 1-week gain of 0.74%, a 4-week gain of 0.23%, but overall year-to-date performance of the stock market recorded a loss of 2.4%. Other indices that were recorded were the NSE Premium Index which went down by 0.12 percent, NSE Insurance Index, which went up 0.96 percent, and the NSE Oil and Gas Index, which went up 0.19 percent.
