NSE Records 50% Increase In Turnover On Monday

The Nigerian Stock Exchange resumed trading for the week on Tuesday, and from the data provided, it is apparent that investors used the public holiday to recharge and refuel. Compared to the previous trading day, Friday, Monday's trading session saw an increase of 50% in total market turnover, as well as a 30% increase in volume, and 28% in the number of deals.

A total of 426.5 million shares were traded on the bourse in 5,616 deals, which is equivalent to about N4.7 billion.


In aggregate, 106 equities took part in the trading session, which ended with 24 gainers and 17 equities losing.

Leading the gainers' list was Lasaco Assurance, as its share price went up by 9.86% to close at N1.56 per share. Neimeth International Pharma followed closely behind, gaining 9.83%. Next were International Breweries and Courteville Business Solutions, with share prices going up by 9.62% and 8.7% respectively.


For equities that lost, Linkage Assurance lost the most as its share price went down a destabilizing 37.65% to end at N0.53. Lafarge Wapco was also on the losers list as its share price saw 9.48% shaved off. Other companies that lost include Regency Alliance Insurance and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance, which lost 9.09% and 7.69% respectively.

 

FBN Holdings did perform well, as 79.6 million of its shares were traded, making it the highest on the exchange on Monday. Access and Zenith banks did well too, with 64.85 million, and 58 million shares exchanged. Lafarge Wapco also saw a high volume of shares, 28.67 million, traded, despite being on the losers list.


The All-Share Index pared 32.64 points to end the day at 39,802, representing an increase of 1.23% in the course of one week, and 2.27% in the course of 4 weeks. 

Other noteworthy indices that performed were the NSE Premium Index which lost 0.26%, NSE Food & Beverage Index which gained 0.76%, and the NSE Top 50 Index which gained 0.4%.
