Piers Morgan removed from ‘Good Morning Britain’ over hateful comments about Megan

British television broadcaster Piers Morgan has been kicked off ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” over thousands of complaints about his hateful comments about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

After an investigation by the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications, it was revealed that the Monday episode of the show received 41,015 complaints about Morgan’s statements following the Meghan and Harry interview with Oprah. The complaints were registered under the agency’s “harm and offence rules.”

Following the discussions and investigations, Morgan decided that it was best to leave the program, according to ITV. The broadcasting corporation said that it has accepted Morgan’s decision and has nothing more to say.

Hours after his departure, Morgan referred to it in a tweet saying: “Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight. He’d have told me exactly to do the same thing.”

Morgan is a known critic of Meghan and Prince Harry’s fairytale. On Monday, he said he was “sickened” by the couple’s interview, calling it a “thrash-a-thon” of the monarchy. He was particular about the “race bombshell” that Harry and Megan dropped, referring to an alleged conversation in which a family member questioned how “dark” their kid’s skin would be.

The royal critic out rightly criticized Meghan’s statement, especially over the fact that she had suicidal thoughts at some point.

“I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle,” Morgan said. “I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report, and the fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family I think is contemptible.”

Tiffany Connor, a trainee of cognitive-behavioral therapy who works with the U.K, National Service said she filed one of the 41,000 complaints after she saw Morgan’s comment on Meghan’s mental health on Monday. She said that Morgan’s comments “perpetuates the stigma” of mental illness and is in contradiction with ITV’s mental health campaign.

“I guess I felt a duty with what I’ve lived through but also see every day at work to protect others and to support people who are and have been like me,” Connor said. “I believe that people can have the power in numbers to make positive change.”

In other segments of the show, Morgan questioned guests about whether or not it was racist to question what the skin color of a mixed-race child would look like. A guest, Shola Mos-Shogbamimu called Morgan a “disappointment” during a heated argument about the monarchy’s colonial history and racism.

“You constantly use your platform as a wealthy, white privileged man with power and influence to aggravate and escalate bigoted, sexist, racist, and misogynist attacks on Meghan Markle.”

Morgan responded to her comments, saying it was “race-baiting nonsense.”

The former ITV presenter took a walk off the show after fellow presenter Alex Beresford confronted him about his comments on Meghan over the years. Beresford described Monday’s episode as “hard to watch” and continued to condemn Morgan.

“I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markel, or had one, and she cut you off,” Beresford said. “She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”

Following Beresford's attacks, Morgan stood up from his seat and exited the show saying, “You can trash me mate, but not on my own show.”

Actor Jameela Jamil expressed her joy after hearing that Morgan had departed from the show. Last year, she had a public fight on Twitter with Morgan following the death of “Love Island” host Caroline Flack, who committed suicide.

“I almost killed myself a year ago because of Piers Morgan’s relentless campaign of lies and hatred against me last February,” Jamil said. “I’m glad I’m still alive today for many reasons.”
