Threads Daily Active Users Drop By 20%

Instagram Threads, which is Mark Zuckerberg's newly found social app gained widespread acceptance making it surpassing 100 million users within days it was launched. The massive number of users gained on Threads was considered by the harsh policies passed by Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, to its users.

According to recent statistics, Threads has gotten one-fifth of Twitter's global weekly active user population and 86 times the weekly active user base of the largest Twitter rival in the United States, Truth Social, which had a weekly active user base of 1 million as of last week.

The new data, given by app analytics firm data.ai, comes from research on Threads early traction, which showed a decline in early usage. Sensor Tower reported last week that Threads daily active users fell by 20% on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • According to CNBC, time spent was reduced by 50%, from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.

Data.ai reported that “Threads momentum is far from over.”  With the current estimates, the app has over 150 million downloads which shows that Threads is 5.5 times quicker than Niantic's Pokémon GO, which has held the record for the greatest app launch title since its July 2016 introduction.

Data.ai also revealed new information about Threads audience, discovering that the Twitter competitor had attracted an audience of around 93 million active users globally during its first partial week of availability, ahead of the official announcement of its 100 million sign-ups milestone on July 10.

The business also discovered that India, not the United States, is dominating in terms of new app downloads, accounting for 33% of worldwide downloads. It is followed by Brazil (22%), the United States (16%), Mexico, and Japan (8% and 5%, respectively).

However, Threads is not yet available in the EU because of legislative issues relating to privacy concerns and data-gathering practices. Meta has even just begun prohibiting EU users from using VPNs to access Threads.

Threads launched its first significant update since its introduction a few days ago, including support for iOS 17, which is now available as a public beta, among other minor tweaks.

Larger upgrades for the app include a following feed, an edit button, multi-account support, and integration with ActivityPub, the technology that powers the popular, decentralized Twitter alternative Mastodon.

On the release of Threads, Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, accused Mark Zuckerberg of using the Twitter model to design Threads. He promised to file a lawsuit, but nothing has been heard about his last tweet on this issue. Thread is also expected to hire more tech developers.
