TikTok Employs More Kenyans for Content Moderation as It Sets up Kenyan Office

After having a meeting with President Ruto William, the CEO of TikTok says that he will have to set up a TikTok office in Kenya—the meeting was a virtual meeting between Chew and Ruto.

Also in the meeting, the discussion of banning the social media platform in Kenya was debated upon, and it has been resolved that its content will be moderated for viewer's consumption.

Recall that a member of the Parliament, Bob Ndolo last week moved a proposal to the Kenyan National Assembly urging them to ban the use of TikTok in the country. He stated that it was reducing social and cultural decency as the contents it gives to Kenyans are explicit.

  • While the proposal has not gained much support because many of the members believe that TikTok has created much employment for content creators. However, the petition will be considered by the Public Petitions Committee which will give a judgment after 60 days.

Also in the meeting, Chew pledged to hire more Kenyans to work for TikTok. He always assured President Ruto that he would work hard to regulate the content posted on TikTok in order to make it fit for the community.

So, any inappropriate or offensive content will be permanently deleted from TikTok.
