Top 10 Internet Service Providers by Customer Base

Nigeria's National Broadband Plan (NNBP 2020-2025) implementation has resulted in a rise of licensed internet service providers (ISPs) operating in the country.

These ISPs, as compared to mobile network providers, play an important role in providing high bandwidth capacity from coastal areas to rural places.

They contribute to Nigeria's target of obtaining 70% internet penetration by 2025 by providing services such as Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH). The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been aggressively giving ISP licenses, thereby increasing the total number to 264 by June 2023.

ISPs, which are different from mobile network carriers, mostly serve business organizations and residences, while companies like MTN, Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile serve a wider range.

In Q1 2023, mobile network providers recorded a total of 150 million active internet customers in the first quarter of 2023, while ISPs had lower subscription statistics. According to NCC statistics, the 108 active ISPs had a total of 194,012 active subscribers as of the end of March this year.
