Empowering Initiatives by the Ogun State Government: N10,000 Cash Palliative, Hazard Allowances, and More

The Ogun state government has taken significant steps to ease the financial burden faced by its public servants and pensioners following the removal of fuel subsidies. In an effort to mitigate the impact of this decision, the government has approved a cash palliative of N10,000 for each employee and retiree. This measure is expected to be in effect for an initial three-month period.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, conveyed this uplifting news through an official statement. The cash palliative is aimed at helping workers cope with the economic challenges arising from the fuel subsidy removal. Disbursement of these funds will commence in July. Additionally, the government plans to distribute food palliatives to vulnerable individuals in the state.

MEASURES PUT IN PLACE

In response to the healthcare situation, the state government has also approved hazard allowances for all health and medical personnel, recognizing the essential role they play in these challenging times. Moreover, public servants in the state will receive a peculiar allowance, demonstrating the government's commitment to their welfare.

Furthermore, the government is taking prompt action to address other pressing concerns. Letters of promotion for the years 2021 and 2022 will be immediately released, and public servants will receive their March and April 2023 leave bonuses without delay. To support pensioners, quarterly gratuity payments will receive immediate cash backing.

Understanding the current realities of the country and acknowledging the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, the state government remains dedicated to improving the well-being of its citizens. One of the measures in this regard involves the implementation of a rotation system in state ministries, departments, and agencies. This will ensure that 20% of their staff strength will be off duty on a daily basis, thereby enhancing work-life balance for employees.

These initiatives collectively reflect the state government's commitment to alleviate the challenges posed by the fuel subsidy removal and to enhance the overall welfare of its workforce and residents.
