Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway sold more stocks, Should investors be worried?

The oracle of Omaha Warren Buffet is the most respected investor in the world and his decision to start selling stocks amidst the Coronavirus pandemic is giving many investors mixed feelings. He hardly sells any of his stocks and he is known for holding stocks for decades. Shockingly he has begun selling stocks and this is sending shockwaves among many investors that follow him.

Warren Buffet held millions of shares in many companies for a long time and he usually adds more to his positions when prices go lower. Surprisingly, he is doing something different this time, he is selling shares and people are left confused. Warren sold million of shares in South West Airlines and in Delta Airlines.

Also, Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway sold lots of shares in the bank of New York Mellon.

Stocks that Warren Buffet Sold in 2020

  • Berkshire sold 13 million shares of Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL)
  • Then 2.3 million shares of Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV).

And now, it sold a total of 869,103 shares of New York Mellon bank (NYSE: BK) shares between April 7 and April 8, 2020.

Berkshire Investment company is required to disclose its selling and buying to the public in a regulator filing because the company holds more than 10 % stake in many of the companies they own. However, Warren's Berkshire has reduced its position in Delta Arlines, South West Airlines and in New York Mellon bank below 10 %. As a result, Investingport believes that Warren sold some shares in other to keep its future trade as a secret. Going below 10 % means Berkshire is no longer required to report its selling and buying.

After the selling spree, Warren Buffet's investment partnership Berkshire still owns 9.2 percent Delta, and it still owns 51 million shares of Southwest ( 9.9 percent). Also, Berkshire still owns 88.1 million shares of the Bank of New York Mellon.

When Warren buys stocks, many investors buy stocks too and when he sells, they also sell. Over the past couple of days, the stock market has gone up despite the fear of the Coronavirus pandemic economy damage still lingering over the stock market.

This may mean a few things to Buffet's followers, they may decide to dump their stocks and lose faith in the market or some may still keep their position since warren did not sell all of his shares in these companies.
